Town Hall Meeting- Thursday, March 11th

The Town Hall Meeting will feature Dr. Coe and Dr. MacDonald. They will be answering questions from staff members.

It will begin at 8:30 sharp in the Reese Center Ballroom.

• Child Development Center: Mary Miller
o Susan Aleshire is the assistant director.
o The CDC is in the midst of hiring cooperating lead teachers.
o There are currently child care openings for 18 month to 5 year olds.
o The CDC created cookbooks and they are available for $5.00 donation. If you are interested, contact the CDC.
New Business:

o April 29th will be an open house. Mad Cap theatre puppets will be performing.

Dining Services: Joe DiPaolo
• Katie O’Neill accepted a position up at the Columbus campus.
• There will be some updates to the menu at Spring quarter.
o Pizza by the slice
o 2 types of burgers
 Value Size- burger, fries and small drink for $3.99
• Katie’s position will be posted on the OSU jobs web site.
Facilities:

Human Resources: Sherry Abbott
• Employee Update (see update at the end of minutes).
• Biometric screenings will be held on April 28th at 8 am in HP 64.

• Helpdesk Analyst position is open.
• Systems Specialist position is open.

• Added that these are two critical positions for frontline support and ITS will be doing its best to continue the level of support.
• Noted that Restricted Data includes: Student Information, Grades, Social Security Numbers, Information protected by FERPA, and financial aid accounts.
• Don’t copy any restricted data to your hard drive on your computer (C drive). That is a very un-secure location for that data.
• The most secure place for data is as follows (in order of highest level of security to lowest)-
o H drive = most secure (because only you have access to this drive)
o Department/Local Drive
o K drive
• Phishing Attempts through email. No legitimate business or academic institution will ever ask for your account information or ID via email.
• How can you tell if the web site you’re looking at is secure?
o Look at the web address for https. The ‘s’ means secure.
Library: Tauni Graham

Marketing and PR:
• No representative present.
OSU Admissions and Advising: Mark Fegley
• Applications from all OSU campuses for autumn 2010 have increased for this year.
• The Columbus campus has met Dr. Gee’s goal of 25,000 applicants which is about 5,000 more than last year.
• 1578 applications for the Newark campus. This is 674 greater than last year
• Second choice applications are up by 535 this year and first choice applications have increased by 139.
Purchasing:
• No representative present.
Safety and Security: Norm Holmes
• Watch out for black ice.
• Howard Imhof asked the staff forum attendees if the communication was sufficient regarding the notification of campus closings.
o Web Site announcement
o Email
o Voicemail message to all phones connected on the global network
• A suggestion was made that wording on the web site be more specific about whether classes were cancelled, offices were closed, clinical, etc.
• The severe weather extension was noted as needing to be updated as well.
Staff Development: Marilyn Lees
• Soup cook-off is today, Thursday, February 11.
• Employee of the quarter nominations are due Friday, February 26th .
• There will be an announcement soon regarding the Staff Development Book Discussion Group.
o The book will be Step Out on Nothing by Byron Pitts.
Student Life:
• No representative present.
