Staff Forum Minutes: September 9, 2010

Monthly hosts:
·         Business & Accounting Offices: Lisa Orr
o   Introduction of business & finance and accounting offices
o   Implementing in 2010 for COTC employees – will be able to access W2’s online (OSU employees have already had access)

New business:
·         AmeriCorps*VISTA- Access– Jen Anthony (OSU) & Mary Fox (COTC)
o   Collaboration: CANDO Partnership; College Access Campaign; Big brothers,  big Sisters;
o   Jen: Access & Engagement (OSU) – main initiatives = Blue Print: College; data collection of service learning models; build infrastructure: juvenile mentoring program (SOC 489), internship opportunity, student activism conference (10-20 students in the spring).
o   Mary: Center for Access & Retention (COTC) - community engagement; specific CollegeASPIRE Recruitment; bridges out of poverty: planning, programming and training; Access and retention tracking & follow-up.
o   CANDO Partnership: COTC, ACTC, NCS, DU, OSU
o   PEAK: Providing early awareness & knowledge; 2nd 4th, and 8th grade classrooms in NCS; promote college-going behaviors;
o   Newark campus awareness of: College access, the Newark community; college access action opportunities (for students, faculty, staff);
o   Big Brothers Big Sisters: continue to strengthen the Newark campus partnership with BBBS; recruit staff & faculty to be mentors in the Newark city schools;

Area updates:

·         Academic Labs: Nobody present

·         Business and Accounting Office: See above

·         Career Services: Nobody present

·         Child development Center: Nobody present

·         COTC Gateway: Susan Jaeger – open for walk-ins; send interested people over.

·         Development Office: Nobody present

·         Dining services: Damon Cappel
o     Next week is a big week for the Table of Contents & catering - all student employees are coming back, so please be patient with students at lunch next week – they’ll be in training;
o     New this fall: coffee card program – punch card, 10th cup is free;
o     Coffee cart – Hopewell and Founders Hall, not sure what it will have besides coffee (pastries, etc.); at least ½ hour each weekday morning; cash only;
o     Catering: brand new catering menu, will be up on OSU & COTC websites with form to fill online; week after next 7 a.m. -6 p.m., Mon-Fri will be hours (Cyber CafĂ©= 7am – 2pm) ; salads will be available until 6 pm;
o     Got a toaster oven from Quizno's – we’ll now have toasted subs for lunch; new menu board will be up next week (passed around handout);
o     Trying to offer more economical options; breakfast changes – new things will be offered.

·         Facilities: Jim Woolard – single stream recycling; dozen recycling stations around campus; pickup once a week (Thursday) – will add days if necessary; cardboard is still its own item – we bale it; will increase recyclables, which decreases trash pickup
o      Repaving University Drive behind Adena – Country Club: week of October 18 – 27; will be closed on and off – expect informative signage;
o      City is changing Country Club drive to three lanes, a 10-month project.

·         HR: Sherry Abbott
o   Personnel updates: see end of minutes for details
o    Benefits fair – October 21st – health screenings, door prizes
o   Your Plan for Health – remember to register for Hit the Road with the Buckeyes;
o   Personal health assessment – September 17th – eligible to win a trip to Wisconsin!

·         Information Technology Services: Jeff Crabtree
o   Dale Main has asked faculty for classroom needs -  be sure to get those in
o   Corri Edwards – professional development workshops will be out 2nd week of quarter
o   Help desk – back to normal hours (7:30 am – 10 pm) (currently closing @ 5pm)
o   End of summer quarter to beg. Of fall quarter, touching 330+ computers to do updates/software updates, refreshes, etc.

·         Library: Tauni Graham
o   Remind faculty to contact library for services
o   If you hear of any problems with their operation, let them know

·         Marketing & PR: Alice Hutzel-Bateson
o   Don’t forget to RSVP to fall welcome luncheon (Wed. Sept 15 11:30 am– 1 pm)

·         OSU Admissions & Advising: Ann Donahue
o   Enrolling new and continuing students; as of last week at target registration rate – goal is 2625

·         Purchasing: Nobody present

·         Safety & Security: Charlene Santee
o   Fingerprint machine is back up (VCI $25; FBI $35);
o   Faculty/staff parking permits are in;
o   Jim Woolard – will be tougher on parking this year, more tickets; purchased new John Deere spreader, which will make ice/snow cleanup time faster

·         Services Center: Sue Bidwell – back to hours (7:30 am – 7 pm, Mon-Thurs; 7:30 – 5 on Friday); gearing up for new school year.
