o Maggie introduced Susan Spurgeon and Beth Moss
• Fees and Deposits: Kim Wortkoetter
o The office of Fees and Deposits handles tuition payments for COTC and OSU-Newark, Financial Aid refunds for COTC, BuckID deposits and sells staff parking permits, among other activities.
o Kim introduced Teresa McGinnis and mentioned that the office is also composed of Jessica Mautz, Terry Welch, Kim Benson, and Lynne Benninghoff. New 100% FTE Cashier job posting June 26th.
New Business
• Ariel Hall Project: Brian Boehmer
o Yesterday the Pataskala campus moved from the city building to former Grand Host East.
o Knox campus
 Move from Ariel Hall to Fredericktown High School temporarily during a 5.5 million dollar renovation
 Brian displayed the plans for the improvements to Ariel Hall
• Create bookends on South side of building
• Addition of windows to the south side.
 Building will be very visible on Main street in Mt. Vernon
 There are 3 floors of Ariel Hall
• First floor will house Security office, Center for Academic Success, classrooms, digital media design lab, community/advisory board room, multipurpose space (which has a capacity 0f 70)
• Second floor will house classrooms and laboratories, student lounge
 The construction will be finished and move in will be August 2011
 A question was asked about parking- Brian reported that they are always looking to find more parking for the Knox campus but that there is a large lot nearby.
• Gateway Personnel News: Susan Jaeger
o Leyla Billman introduced Deleisha Dougulas. Deliesha is from Indiana and began working at this campus in May.
• CollegeASPIRE: Tara Houdeshell
o Workshops begin on Monday of next week. 160 children are expected to attend workshops located at several of COTC campuses
o There are workshops about robotics, medical madness and forensics
o Next Saturday will be an open house from 11-1 in the Warner center
o Age groups are 10-14 year olds and 14-18 year olds
o This program targets under resource, high risk youths.

Area Updates
• Academic Labs: Terry Jackson
 There was a test on a possible meteorite and there was no Nickel so therefore it wasn’t a meteorite
• Business and Accounting Office: Kim Wortkoetter
 Kim commended ITS because Kelly Kirkpatrick was able to finagle the Datatel system so that COTC students can now view their student tuition account details/six-month history on COTCconnect.
• Career Services: No update.
• Child Development Center: Mary Miller
 There are still some part time positions for school-aged children open. There are many positions open for preschoolers.
• COTC Gateway: Susan Jaeger
 John Merrin is retiring at the end of this year. The Gateway is in the process of hiring his replacement and hopefully will be in place at the end of June.
• Development Office: Heather Warnecke
 40th Anniversary toolkit is not to be used until next year
 If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
 Thanked staff for participating in the increasing the culture of philanthropy.
• Dining Services: Damon Cappel
 Please remember to bring a copy of the invoice when you use the P-card to pay for catering
 Introduced Rob Yarmesch, the new assistant director of Table of Contents.
• Human Resource: Sherry Abbott
 Personnel updates (please see end of minutes)
• Information Technology Services: Corri Edwards
 There are two teams of people facilitating the simultaneous moves in Pataskala and Knox
 The positions of Classroom Support and Asset Management are in the process of being filled
• Library: Tauni Graham
 Tauni alluded that there will be something interesting happening with the library.
 Tauni reported that the noise levels have decreased
• Marketing: Suzanne Bressoud
 COTC commencement took place on Friday June 11th.
 Saturday July 3rd, Sticks and Stones at 6:30, Heisy Wind Ensemble at 8:30, Fireworks at 10.
• Tauni Graham mentioned that Red, White and Boom is on July 2nd so there may be a big crowd here.
• OSU Admissions and Advising: Ann Donahue
 Orientation sessions have begun this quarter
 Buckeye visit days will continue as well
 There has been budget approval for an Access Coordinator, a new position on campus
 Ann recognized Travis Patrick for video work he worked on
 Kyle Morgan announced that Karen Prost is retiring. Marilyn Barber will take over Karen’s position and there will be a new advising position opening up. There is also a full time position opening up for the front desk
• Safety and Security: Mike Neff
 Reported that security is getting ready for July 3rd fireworks.
• Security and Facilities: Jim Woolard
 First attempt to hire a security director was unsuccessful so Mike Neff will remain with the campus for the foreseeable future.
• Services Center: Sue Bidwell
 Sue told staff that if large quantities of copy are needed, please get those requests in right away. There will be an influx of requests from faculty
 Please return Interoffice envelopes
• Staff Development: Marilyn Lees
 There were 155 jars of Peanut Butter donated. This amounts to 224 pounds of Peanut butter
 There will be a list of events for next year’s Staff Development events
 Marilyn listed the nominees for employee of the quarter.
 The recipient of the Spring 2010 employee of the quarter is Cathy Mitchell
• Student Life: No update.

• Corri announced that the current staff forum committee will be handing over the torch in June to the new officers.
• Corri thanked the Facilities and Safety department for the wonderful breakfast they have provided.

Monthly Hosts: Security and Facilities
• Jim Woolard: Informed that the runs the Maintenance and Facilities office. Jim introduced Brian Boehmer, director of facilities, Dan Longstreth, Shirley Justice, Norm Holmes, and Rick Nelson.
• Dr. Woolard reported that there are plans for a parking garage.
• There will be a three year program in which every square yard of the Newark campus will be repaved and sealed. This summer will begin with University Drive.
• Brian Boehmer reported that a lot of energy is being spent on moving and renovations at Ariel Hall, and moving to the Grand Host East in Pataskala.
• An auction will take place on Monday, May 17th to sell kitchen and catering items recovered from the Grad Host East.
• Dan Longstreth reported that flowers are coming in for the Adopt-a-Garden area. If interested, please contact Dan.

New Business
• New Employee: Corri Edwards
o Corri Edwards introduced Damin Cappel, the new dining services director. Damin told staff that he would be happy to hear ideas on menu items that could be offered.
• Creating a Culture of Philanthropy: Jennifer Roberts
o There will be a large cost-shared comprehensive campaign for Central Ohio Technical College and The Ohio State University at Newark.
o Building a culture of philanthropy.
o MOU (Memorandum of Understanding)
 Opportunities-

• Leverage manpower and other resources
• Momentum of a larger campaign
• Cultivation of a larger prospect pool.
• Perpetuate the vision of NCDF -NCDF is a privately controlled budget.

• Eliminate the stigma associated with fundraising

o Everyone plays a role in this campaign by creating a welcoming environment on campus for all visitors, students.
• Everyone is a potential donor. Too often we think of donors as the four or five people that have their names on buildings, but in reality, it is any staff member, faculty member or student.
o Your Role
o Demonstrate your support
o Provide leads
 A family member, a neighbor, a friend. Tell Jennifer if you know anyone that is interested in scholarships or donating to the college in other ways.
o Serve as an active liaison
o Advocate for the College and University
o Jennifer closed with the quote “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark”.
o Jennifer showed a news story about a donor from Wake Forest college.
o Heather Warneke, the new Assistant Director of Development, was introduced. Jennifer introduced Laura Walsh and also Latricia Johnston.

• Recycling Book Clubs: Rose Hart
o This is an idea for people who like to read. There are many book clubs on campus. Rose said that these books would be for borrowing- no checkout or anything. Just honor system.
o Rose attended a conference about recycling.
o The recycling committee will have a guest speaker at the next meeting.

• Staff Appreciation Week: Marilyn Lees
• Staff development decided that in addition to appreciating staff, they would also give staff the opportunity to donate as well.
• During next few weeks, there will be boxes at events where staff can bring jars of Peanut Butter to donate.

Area Updates
o Dining Services: Damin Cappel
o Please send catering requests to the dining services email, Joe Dipaolo or Damin.
o Human Resources: Sherry Abbott
o Employee Updates (please see the end of the minutes).
o Picnic will be Wednesday, May 19 in the Amphitheater.
o Check the HR website for Financial workshops. The first one is next week. Employees are encouraged to sign up.
o ITS: Howard Imhof
o Last month was a difficult month due to transitions in staff. Cheryl Tucker and Joe Snow are no longer with our institution. The jobs are posted and ITS is working quickly to fill these key positions.
o If you have requests for the asset management area, please send those requests to Jeff Crabtree.
o Classroom Support requests should be sent to the ITS Helpdesk. Jonathan Harper is organizing them. Terry Gill is stepping up to manage student workers and take care of requests. Howard reported that it’s possible that things may fall through the cracks, so please be understanding during this time of transition.
o Windows 7 is coming out soon. Founders 180 will have Windows 7 installed.
 Founders 180 will be available during the break.
 The rollout plan is that as you receive your new computers, they all will have Windows 7.
o Also Office 2010 is coming out. Transition to Office 10 will occur duing the autumn quarter of 2010.
o Corri Edwards added that there will be plenty of professional development and training workshops available for faculty and staff to learn the new software.
o Staff Development: Tauni Graham
o Tauni mentioned that there is opportunity to nominate new officers.
o Marketing: Alice Hutzel-Bateson
o There FAQ documents available for students and prospective students. If hard copies are needed, please contact Alice or Suzanne Bressoud.
o Alice noted that the transitions that are occurring, these moves are very positive. These moves open up many doors in terms of marketing.
o Jasmin Hennosy has been out of the office on Maternity leave. Jasmin is expected to return in early June.
o The Ohio State Newark Graduation celebration is May 18th.
o COTC commencement in Adena Hall is June 11th.
o OSU Admissions and Advising: Kyle Morgan
o Graduation Celebration is for students that have earned their Associates degree, bachelor (or 80% of their degree) here at Newark.
o Mark Fegly reported that orientation start on May 26th and continues during the summer.
o Mark reported that Ann wanted to thank everyone who has signed up to participate in the Reality Store.
o Kyle Morgan mentioned an article in the Newark Advocate
o Purchasing: Maggie Camstra
o It was noted that there is a new Pepsi vending machine in the basement of Founders hall.
o Please use P-cards when purchasing items. This helps things flow more smoothly.
o Safety and Security: Mike Neff
o Officer Neff gave an update on the parking situation on the Newark campus. He reported that there were over 500 parking spots at 12:30
o Reminder emails have been sent out about paying parking tickets. There will be stricter enforcement.
o Employees are advised to lock offices and cars. Put anything of value away and out of sight. Someone will break your car window to grab $1.00 worth of change.
o Staff Development: Marilyn Lees
o Social dance class will be held from 11:30-1:00 on Thursday, May 20th in the Adena gym.
o The book discussion club is finished for this year.
o Employee of the quarter nominations are due this month. Please send all nominations to Mary Kay Yaus.
