ITS: two new staff members, Kelley Cupp (Instructional Design) and Nick Fornier (Classroom Suppport); let’s all appreciate Nick for how wonderful the microphones sound; we should soon see messages about Office 2010---we should plan to install it; all classrooms and labs in Founders are Office 2010; IT is going building by building to get Office 2010 software installed in all campus classrooms; extended campuses will come next; look for email updates from IT as they progress; installation should be finished before fall quarter; call the helpdesk with any questions; don’t fear 2010 J; faculty/staff can sign out 2010 software upgrade for the home computer (1 machine only, it is a work at home license); remote access is Office 2007; shouldn’t have any compatibility issues

Library: See library for 2010 upgrades; welcome to Jesse Higel (weekend supervisor, serials webmaster)

Marketing & Public Relations: we are fully staffed J; Nathan Gordon is new student intern from business management technology program; Wednesday September 14th is fall welcome luncheon at the Reese Center at 11:30 AM; thanks for completing the campus wide survey

OSU Admissions & Advising: Ann’s numbers report: 3,408 applications; we expect 1,231 will show up in the fall; that’s above projection, so we’re feeling good J; current student enrollment is running about 92 behind from last year; Kyle has academic advising staffing announcements; Rachael has a new baby boy and will go half time when she returns in August (thanks to the semester change staffing funds and Dr. MacDonald’s generosity in making the position permanent); hiring two full time positions (replacing Annie Schuster and Rachael Bailey’s full time position); 380 applications; in telephone interview stage right now; orientations are going GREAT; we’re bringing ‘em in! =)

Purchasing: Susan says they are trying to change purchasing forms into Adobe format for easier access; (those with Windows 7 have had issues using Word documents); request was made from the floor to leave Word option available

Safety & Security: Resealing/construction on parking lots will start soon; blacktop will be resealed; new asphalt being laid; every parking lot will experience some maintenance over the summer; some delays but coming soon (in about two weeks); be prepared to have your parking interrupted (lots closed for up to a week at a time); hoping to increase faculty/staff spaces; new lot being added (approx 100 spots) on south end of LeFevre; emails/website will have updates on parking lot closures

Services Center: send large jobs to us; things are slow right now but in about six weeks they will get busy; 69213 call if you need us

Staff Development: food drive during staff appreciation donated 135 pounds of fruit to food pantry; putting together a bowling party in early August (more info TBA)

Student Life: No one present

Guest Speaker: Dr. MacDonald --- staff culture survey results were fantastic; thanks for completing the survey; will be making the rounds through different departments to ask what we’re doing well/what we can do to become even better; let’s open the floor for questions while he takes notes =)

What do we do well? Personal service (because we’re a small campus); administration, faculty, and staff are caring; great teamwork between departments (we are much less “siloed;” staff forum is a great example); we hire ethical people; culture shaping retreats have been good reminder to be grateful, keep attitudes in check; commitment to cultural diversity in faculty/staff and student body

More opportunities for culture retreats coming soon (both here and at Columbus campus)

What can we do to become better? Better signage (exterior and interior) to help guests; maps/building diagrams on website to help students/guests find their way through buildings (IT has a template we can use)---Alice pointed out that Columbus campus security does not allow detailed floorplans, so we may have difficulty obtaining them here; maybe we could post floorplans on internal applications (like COTC Connect or campus portal); better health/wellness facilities and opportunities for students (weight room does have new carpeting :)

MISCELLANEOUS:

Campus trivia game

1) Who were last year’s staff forum officers? Sue Bidwell, Suzanne Bressoud, and Francesca Amigo --- Kelley Cupp won a lovely OSU mug for providing the correct answer
2) When was COTC founded? 1971 --- Candy Sheridan won an amazing COTC mug for answering this one
3) When was OSU Newark founded? 1957 --- Alice Hutzel-Bateson won coffee from the Table of Contents

Next Meeting: August 11; hosts Information Technology Services
