Staff Forum Minutes for November 12, 2009

Monthly Hosts- COTC Gateway

Gateway Introduction: Mark Labutis
• The Gateway manages students from when they are first interested in COTC all the way through graduation.
• Gateway update- this autumn 4,341 students enrolled, a record.

New Business:
• Ohio State Newark Fall Term Updates- Mark Fegley
o Record high enrollment (by 10 students)
o In February, applications were down at all campuses and regional campuses were dramatically down.
o The numbers of Newark students moving to the Columbus campus in their second year is increasing.
o How did it turn around?
 Regional Marketing Campaign

 4% Higher Matriculation Rate
 Economic Impact
 Warner Center attraction
o Registration skyrocketed after July 10th
o Full time students are the same for the 2nd year, Part time students has increased by 12.9%
o Males are up 4.8% while females are down 0.9%
o Under age 21 is up 5.36% and 21 and older down 4.95%
o Students are from 69 of Ohio’s 88 counties
o Diversity is up by 15%

Career Services: No representative present

Development Office: Laura Walsh
• Nominations are still being accepted for the newly created Transitions Award.

Facilities/Project Manager:
• No updates.

Human Resources: Sherry Abbott
• Please meet the new campus employees; Nicia Cary, Assistant Director of Human Resources and Steve Veyon, PC Network Administrator.
• Thanks to everyone that helped and assisted with the benefits table. Marketing helped man tables and Amy Bischoff helped as well.
• Reminder that you have until the 30th of the month to finish your PHA for the discount on your benefits.
• Please take a look at http://jobs.cotc.edu to see the new online application system. There will be no more paper applications for COTC.
• Please see the full listing of Personnel Updates at the end of this document.

ITS: Kasia Wilson
• Starting to work on the project list for the Winter Break. Let ITS know of anything that needs attention by calling or emailing.
• There will be many refreshes over the Winter Break for classrooms, labs and faculty computers. There will be a list published of computers that will be refreshed. See the web site in the next few weeks for the refresh list.
• There will be updates for the policies and procedures and manuals over the next few months.
• The technician position will be filled soon.
• Windows 7 will be rolled out as soon as possible.

Marketing: Alice Hutzel-Bateson
• COTC received two Gold Medallion awards from the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR). One each for the poster/overview and COTC Viewbook. And a Bronze Medallion award for the Knox Capital Campaign press conference program.
• Thanks to Leslie Lenzo McLaughlin for her graphic design work
• Leslie’s title is now Senior Graphic Designer because of her more than 20 years of experience in the field, 10 of those being here at this campus.
• December 4 is the Holiday Celebration and Santa Visit
o This event is campus-wide and open to the public.
• Friday December 18th from 3-5 is the Holiday Open House for campus faculty and staff only. This celebration for employees takes place in the Reese Center.
• Winter Commencement is Friday, December 11 at 6:30 pm, also in the Reese Center.
• Stop by the Marketing office to see the NCMPR medallion awards.

Safety and Security: Norm Holmes
• Check expiration date on parking permit. If you get a ticket in Columbus for an expired ticket, there is nothing they can do.
• Security has guest permits if you don’t have an ‘A’ or ‘B’ tag. It is for one day only.

Staff Development: Marilyn Lees
• Staff Development is sponsoring a book discussion group. Please fill out the survey which is included on the table.
• Autumn employee of the quarter nominations are due on November 30th. The nomination form is available on the staff development web site.
• The holiday door decorating contest will be coming up.
• Holiday potluck will be December 16th from 11:00-1:00. This is where the door decorating contest winners will be announced.

Student Life: Elaine Stevens & Vorley Taylor
• Introduced Becky Smith the new Customer Service Representative located in Reese.
• Annual intercultural series begins today in W175 at 12:30.
• Next week is beat Michigan Week with piƱatas, t-shirts, buckeye necklaces and more.
• Student Cultural Council- November 18th from 5:30-6:30 in WC 175Presentation on Thailand.

Open Session:
Jamie White- As winter quarter is approaching, it is a good time to remind everyone that all OSU Newark class cancellations are listed online. It is the quickest way to access the cancellations instead of calling the front counter. The Class Cancellations link is in the drop-down box under Current Students.
