USAC: Heather Link, Chair, USAC, Columbus (oversees research at med center) – here to learn about Newark and what they can do to help; want to build a bridge with regional campuses. (30 members, 3 yrs)
USAC is university staff advisory council – serve as support for staff; 22,000 staff on main campus alone; to help represent all staff; “staff voice” for the institution. Challenge policies and promote change. Examples: Tuition benefit – used to have a wait period, now it’s instant upon hire; same-sex domestic partnership health benefits.

Introduced members present: Tom Keller, 3rd year member (college of education; accountant for new grant received); Nicki Herbert, 3rd year member; (college of pharmacy, student affairs; student recruitment); and Michelle German, 1st year member (office of HR/gateway).

• Heather Warneke: can there be reps from regionals?
o YES but there’s only one regional campus rep – distance is a problem.
• Leslie McLaughlin: will USAC go to all regionals again in the future?
o Will go to all regionals once a year in the future.
• Howard Imhof: COTC is impacted by OSU policies; from staff & administrative perspective, we are already a “one-university” system;
• Candace Sheridan: IN years past, USAC had open meetings on our campus; would you consider doing that again?
o Will ask the committee;
• Need to connect with colleagues/departments in Columbus.
o Asst. Vice Provost is working to help with that.
• Howard Imhof: IT/CIO creates policy etc that we’re supposed to adhere to, but doesn’t always provide the means to do so;
o Will share information.
• Ordering process for labs – not efficient.
• Gayle Gambs – how do reps work? (USAC) – Michelle: application gets emailed (and online) – submitted, reviewed; then do face-to-face interviews. From all areas.

Town Hall meeting w/Pres. Gee a month ago – had a drop-box created, linked off main site – for suggestions, feedback, comments, etc. Looking to streamline resources.

They would like to help us with things like the “hidden benefits fair” – held in Ohio Union.
Every few years USAC surveys the staff – randomly sent, please fill out if you received it. The results drive what USAC does.

How to reach USAC: www.usac.osu.edu or Heather Link: heather.link@osumc.edu.
